About the Author

Hi, I am April, wonderful to meet you.

So this feels weird, writing about myself. I’ll give it my best shot.

I grew up in South London and moved to Orkney in my thirties. I am a wife, a mother and writer. Oh and a millennial.

I am a disabled author, having been diagnosed with what feels like a laundry list to write whenever I have to on forms. I always feel like I forgot something, and usually I have. Having a dynamic disability is a challenge in itself because a good day leads to flare ups. The shoe that drops. It takes a toll on the mental health.

Primarily I love to write romantasies. I’m most likely to pick them up off the shelf too.

My favourite author being Richelle Mead, I’ll never get over the trauma of “Love fades. Mine has.”

I am also a lover of The Hunger Games, The Phantom of the Opera, Game of Thrones. In all formats, but don’t talk to me about the final season of Game of Thrones, it doesn’t exist. πŸ˜‰

I am determined to write and have my work published so I can tell my kids that you can still pursue your dreams even if it takes you a bit longer than you want it to. I dream of being a good role model to them. This is a part of it.

As a diagnosed perfectionist I am currently unlearning my perfectionism. My two new life mottos are:

1- It doesn’t have to be perfect it just has to be done.

This is great and incredibly true for applying to a first draft. As well as simple day to day things when the spoons are low.

2- A job worth doing is worth doing badly.

This is great at helping to beat some of that executive disfunction. Often used much like the above and along side it. definitely worth applying to a first draft, you can’t edit something that doesn’t exist.

And to anyone who says you can’t polish a turd, while that may be technically correct you can roll it in glitter.
