Fourth Wing read along some more

And so we enter the foray at chapter 9 notes:

“I will not die today” that’s my girl you use that law of attraction.

Dain and Xaden… I don’t think they’ll be making friendship bracelets for each other any time soon.

They certainly have classic chemistry (Xaden and Violet). Ooo that was a tense could have kissed moment on the mats.

lol the nickname violence. Picasso. I like it.

Ooo she has a creepy stalker who wants her dead. Crushed flowers on her bed…. How not romantic.

Ergh Dain still trying to get her to leave to go be a scribe despite her wishes. Dick move. He’s pretty desperate for her to leave. I have to wonder one thing though. Is he trying to save her because it’s for her or for his own feelings?

Heading into chapter 10 notes:

Whats the gauntlet? Oh so it’s like total wipeout but murderous.

Ooo she’s starting to believe in herself a bit. Amazing what being pinned to a mat by your enemy can do.

Ok professor Emetterio… I don’t know why but I keep hearing it as amaretto.

Thank goodness I don’t have to do the course.

Is she telling us about feather tails because that will be her dragon?

Well wouldn’t you know the one who’s practiced the obstacle courses died on it.

Another surprise meeting with Xaden after curfew. Will they get caught at some point? But they do get under each others skin.

Ok just one more chapter. Notes on 11:

So does her having her brothers book cause turmoil to the after life of her brother? You know with the god of deaths laws.

Do these people not have suncream?

Imogen is probably due for retribution and death at some point probably for pissing off Xaden.

So Dain is given the Peeta Mellark vibe but lacks the confidence in Violet’s potential abilities.

I wonder if it’s an omen that she said “one of us will have to bury the other” could that be foreshadowing?

Will Dain ever accept that she’s changed? Wanting to be there.

Oh nice she made the gauntlet. But I have to say they are not going to like her methods.

Yup there it is. Amber Mavis. I don’t remember that name before. What is Xaden going to save her bacon with?

Oh it’s the book. The codex saves her bacon on using the dagger. So using a knife from home that she took on her walk across a bridge got her out on a technicality.

I think I like the phrase “the right way isn’t the only way” … I like me a loophole here and there.

How have so many in her squad minus the girl who practiced those things before survived that far? Like there’s more of their squad than the others so what’s the magical answer they had to living so long?

Fourth Wing 5,6,7,8

It’s safe to assume from now on all Fourth wing posts will contain spoilers and thoughts as they appear. This is my read along of thoughts… no editing, no coming back, no correcting mistakes. Raw and unfiltered. Please don’t hold this read along journal against me.

Notes on 5:

So battle strategy class? Can’t help but wonder if the faltering in the wards/mountain area is about to be a lovely bit of foreshadowing.

Violet didn’t fly under the radar at all like she was told to. Looks like Xaden might be a match of intelligence too. Forbidden/enemies to lovers vibes.

Jack is so insecure and gross. The worst kind.

Imogen the one who tries to kill her on the mat and settles for damaging the arm… girls got issues. Talk about misplaced anger.

What was this rebellion though? What was it about? Why?

Notes on 6:

Ok so Dain seems extremely keen his girl Friday goes off to be a scribe. But like, using an arm break and dislocation to do it? I doubt anyone would buy it anyway. He’s getting in the way a bit. Is he not supposed to be a good guy? Cos he doesn’t believe in her much.

The journal from her dead brother… chefs kiss. This girls gonna somehow survive almost anything with all the help being thrown her way.

Notes on 7:

Why is she getting stuff to poison people? Also what does she plan to do with it? Is it a small amount of pain or deadly as it comes?

Ok secret meetings of rebels set up as under dogs sent there on purpose to die trying to help themselves? Hmmmm. Very divergent.

These rebels really hate her mum. Should I be surprised that Xaden has said Violet is his to deal with not the rebels kids?

Oooo she told him she won’t tell about the secret illegal meeting… juicy.

Notes on 8:

Ooo Rhiannon and Tara sitting in a tree…

Is Dian’s name pronounced like Dean or does it rhyme with Bain?

Oh sneaky poison plan could be in action by taking on breakfast duties and finding out who she is paired against.

Dragon lessons !!! Less dragons willing to bond? Hmmm what do they know? Why aren’t they willing to bond?

Blue dragons sound fun. Oh so lots of blue dragons that don’t strictly follow the rules are in the mountains where the fighting is. Is this redirection or cause?

I’d be willing to bet dumbass Jack goes searching for that Morningstar tail dragon that’s super powerful. He seems the type to have that inflated ego.

So she won the challenge against puke boy by giving him food poisoning? Called it. I guess that’s why continuing the risky food tampering continues. Surely it will get noticed soon? She got cocky, sloppy even with that last timing, a shame because now that chapter ends with Xaden having to step in to the ring against her.

I look forward to reading that next chapter tomorrow.

Something I’ve noticed though, is that I’m not devouring this book whole. It’s making me think, making me want to ask questions and find out the answers but not hurtle and speed through it. It doesn’t feel like a single thing is there by accident or a throw away it feels consistently like it leads somewhere. It’s a fairly exciting feeling as a reader to enjoy.

Fourth wing 4 chapters in

A little glimpse into my thoughts as I am reading Fourth Wing for the first time after seeing it being such a thing. These thoughts occurred over chapters 3 and 4. I’ve already posted the thoughts during chapters 1 and 2 of this read along thing.

Well she survived so far. I don’t know if it’s the print size or what but it being so small makes it feel like the chapters are rather long.

Another love interest has been introduced.

Dain.

So there’s my predicted love triangle Dain and Xaden. Good versus evil.

At least she got her boot back. How long till someone she’s close to betrays her though? Can only be a matter of time, probably chapters. Unless it’s being held out for one of her own squad??? To attempt murder before the big trials??

That would be if it’s following the same rhythm as the divergent series.

I hope at least one of her friends she makes in her class don’t try to kill her.

I wonder if the random snarky character will live much longer or if he earns/keeps his place as a comedic relief?

I must read on.

Two Chapters in… Fourth Wing

Ok I will admit I went into this with no idea what this book is about, I have seen no spoilers, I picked it to read next because there is some cute fandom merch on Etsy with dragons so I was curious.

I am currently two chapters in. I have predictions and theories about the directions in this book and I wanted to put them somewhere so I don’t get too many spoilers thrown back at me.

Ok, so first thing I want to ask, is what is with the font? It’s tiny and awkward to read, I got the paperback I don’t know if it makes any difference?

Next, I like the little info bits above the chapter headings, it really helps the world building… and the map at the start also super helpful because I struggled to picture things when the info dump occurred.

So the first couple of chapters I have noticed that it’s well written info dumping about the lore to this book. I hear its a series so I am trying my best to concentrate to remember things.

The mention of Violet being so small and is going to go do the super dangerous things is really giving me the vibe of Tris in Divergent. As the main character I am anticipating she is likely to survive in very unlikely situations. Using her fear and talking to herself about all her scribe knowledge and lore to get through scary dangerous stuff is a wonderful tool to give us all the information. I like it, it doesn’t feel like a “here’s all the history memorise this you will need it later when things get confusing” kind of dump either.

Dylan dying within what felt like five minutes, killing off the hopeless romantic, has a little shock factor. Jack? I think his name is screams raging male insecurity. Absolute w*nker in the making. I don’t think he will have much a redemption arch. I can see the whole set up with Xaden though, looks like it will be enemies to lovers, good motivation for them to hate each other, families killing each other, her instant “damn he’s hot” moment. They’re surely going to be love interests throughout, I suspect he will help her when she could easily die.

Looking forward to reading more…

Hooked

Ok… I finally read the last book from the Never After series, hooked.

So it was much easier to read than the last one, Scarred. I liked it kind of. I mean I read it faster, it was less of a chore.

Things I personally didn’t like was the breath play, call me traumatised but that doesn’t sound like a risk worth taking, how easily it can go wrong. But also, Hook treats her so badly. doesn’t make any true, realistic, authentic apology to her, it all gets rug swept and there is no consequences at all for locking her in a basement.

I don’t know why but not only is that a whole parade of red flags but a bunch of deal breakers, and yet it’s expected to be lapped up in the dark romance section. I have to ask, are you all ok? Do you need some therapy? Like you deserve healing and healthy relationships.

I don’t know why but I would love to know if there is something out there where the bad stuff happens, damage is done massively to their relationship they get therapy and realise that the “love” they have doesn’t out weigh the damage and they go on to become healthier versions of themselves so that their next relationship doesn’t look like absolute trainwreck material? Like the true romance in it winds up being that they find a love for themselves? A touch of self worth? I don’t know.
