Brief update on life!

So a few months in to living somewhere new what can I tell you?

Well, one lovely weekend morning we decided to go to Stromness. Absolutely lovely, kiddo enjoyed running around.

Mother’s day was lovely, we did little odds and sods, I quite enjoyed the relaxing.

I attempted to make a Chinese BBQ pork belly. It was ok, the crackling caught in a few spots but otherwise good reviews.

I gave in and got myself an old lady trolley, or a “push me pull you” trolley as nana would say. I had to get it just to make life a little easier than using a pram as an aid. Starting to accept the accommodations I need to make for myself and my disabilities. While I may not want to and do struggle with how my health etc is I do need to stop living in denial of it.

For international women’s day we popped into the fate at the Masonic hall, it was lovely and we did treat ourselves to some lovely candles by Orkney Mangata and some gorgeous macarons from Odins Bakery so far my favourites are the blueberry ones.

We’ve been loving the move, it’s been a really healthy choice for myself and my family, the lifestyle is helping to calm us down.

Oh and the one thing I am struggling to get used to, is that there is a relaxed way about life, especially with shop opening times, it’s been quite unusual and a little challenging to get used to but I am sure that it will all chill out soon.

I breathed A Court of Wings and Ruin

So following on from the ACOTAR series I started to read A court of Wings and Ruin the same day that I finished ACOMAF because it is essentially crack for the brain.

Honestly, the writing quality began to dwindle the further down the book I read so much didn’t make sense. Spoilers below.

So I might have made a mistake

Booktok got to me. I finally caved and decided to start to read the infamous fairy spice all over tiktok and instagram.

A court of Thorns and Roses – by Sarah J. Maas

So here are my thoughts…

It’s actually not as cringey as I was expecting myself to feel reading it. It was fairly immersive into the world.

Tamlin though… He has no game… his compliment that she looked clean? Really? I mean seriously that is all he had? The biggest eyerolls.

It was reminiscent to me of Beauty and the Beast, if the books were art, the beast was a fairy and the witch was just a wicked bitch.

Not sure why people describe the books as spicey spicey, I have a feeling the rest of the series will tell me why.

Feyre- Thank you to the author so much for really spelling out how the name is pronounced because I definitely didn’t have it sounding like that at first glance.

Small spoilers below in terms of thoughts about the story and questions I have going into reading the next book.

So I read the Pumpkin Spice Cafe

I read the Pumpkin Spice Cafe by Laurie Gilmore.

I’ve had some thoughts so I thought I would put them here.

The book set in New England heavily reminded me of the Gilmore girls. A warm cosy vibe for sure. A sort of youthful tone on love, either that or I am a little too cynical and logical. It ended up with a nice set up for a sequel which I believe there is a related book.

The “plot twist” of the person responsible for meddling I felt was rather obvious early on.

The male lead definitely needed therapy before the book even started, but if he had half of the “conflict” wouldn’t have been a problem.

One thing I found weird was the time frame, my cynicism at someone falling head over heels, settled in a new job and in love in the space of time between fall and thanksgiving has me wondering if I might have the emotional range of a teaspoon. that or I might just be complacent or cynical.

Having just moved town myself I don’t think there has yet been an attempt to reinvent myself, I still have no pets and no cat has decided to adopt me, no café for me to manage or town meetings to attend. Mind you how do you actually reinvent yourself?

At 357 pages a lot of which would have been a smoother journey if only they could have learned how to communicate effectively.
